Organics

Riverside's garden has been an important part of the Community since its establishment in 1941.

The Riverside Garden composes about 2 acres of land close to the village center. It has a beautiful location, gently sloping to the Northwest with awesome views of our mountain range.

This fully organic garden was first established in 1985 and has supplied Riverside Community with healthy organic vegetables ever since. It also supplies the Cafe with freshly picked vegetables, herbs and flowers.

The Garden is currently managed with a no-dig approach, using a mulch system and hand tools. We make compost on a weekly basis, using the Community's and Cafe's organic waste.
We also use EM (Efficient Microorganisms) as part of our soil management.

There's always plenty to do and plenty to learn - WWOOFers will find this an exciting opportunity to find out about organic gardening and practice new skills...

Riverside Community agreed in its annual meeting in 2004 to work towards a transition to organics - plans are currently in development.

The garden is presently run by Verena Gruner.
