| The Community Halls |
|
The central community
building features a hall with wooden floors and ceiling. It was originally
constructed by the community in the late 70's as a church and, over the past
twenty years, it has metamorphised itself to become a dining hall and a
communal gathering place for festivals, weddings, funerals, workshops and
meetings.
In 2003, the adjacent small hall and kitchen were unfortunately destroyed by a fire. They are currently being replaced by a new building complex, featuring an octagonal meeting hall, a modern commercial kitchen, toilets, wheelchair access, a large foyer as well as an attractive outside space. This complex is geared to hosting group events such as conferences, seminars, workshops and cultural events and as well as continuing to be the heart of the Riverside Community. Marae style accomodation is also planned. The Braeburn Hall is adjacent to this complex and at present is used regularly for yoga, meditation, massage and other healing activities.
